The Skin Texture Report is a publication about keratosis pilaris, folliculitis, ingrown hairs, razor bumps, strawberry legs and the other conditions that make skin feel rough or bumpy.
Rough, bumpy skin is one of the most common reasons people search for skin advice, and one of the most poorly served. Most of what you find online either sells a scrub or promises a cure. Neither helps much. We write the guides we wanted to read: what is actually happening in the skin, what the research supports, and when a problem needs a dermatologist instead of another product.
How we work
Every article starts with the questions people actually ask, drawn from search data and reader questions. We answer them using peer-reviewed research and guidance from leading medical organizations, including the American Academy of Dermatology, the National Institutes of Health, Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic and DermNet. Each article lists its sources at the end so you can check our work.
We are careful about the line between skin care and medicine. Cosmetic products can improve how skin looks and feels; they don’t cure medical conditions. Where a topic calls for a diagnosis, we say so and explain when to see a board-certified dermatologist.
Who we are
The Report is produced by a small editorial team. Articles are bylined to the editors as a group. Our editorial standards explain how we research, write and update our work, and our disclosure explains who owns this publication.
